Crews praised following Aberdeen fire
19 February 2019
THE SCOTTISH Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to reports of a flat fire in the city's St Clair Street in the early hours of 17 February.
Operations Control mobilised four fire engines to the scene, where crews were met by a well developed fire situated within a basement.
Firefighters located the fire and worked to extinguish the blaze amid challenging conditions.
During the incident, two casualties were led to safety by firefighters before being transferred into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.
Three others self evacuated.
All five casualties were assessed by ambulance crews, with all five taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for further assessment.
Station manager Bryan Nelson was involved in the incident.
Praising the work of crews, he said: "This was a significant incident which presented us with some very challenging conditions.
"But our firefighters worked through the conditions and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their efforts."
Station Manager Nelson continued: "Incidents like this reiterate why ensuring you have a working smoke detector within your home is so important.
"We can install a free smoke detector as part of our home fire safety visit programme and I would encourage all members of our community to reach out in relation to this."
A joint investigation between the SFRS and Police Scotland into the incident will be held in due course.
