Adra adopts Aico’s Connected Home Solution to support ORP works
08 August 2025
AICO – THE home life safety systems developer of fire, carbon monoxide, heat and smoke alarms – has announced that Adra (North Wales’ largest housing association) has chosen to implement the company’s Connected Home Solution in order to support the monitoring and management of properties participating in the Optimised Retrofit Programme during 2025.

Supported by the Welsh Government, the Optimised Retrofit Programme aims to improve the energy performance of existing homes in order to help meet ‘Net Zero’ carbon targets.
Aico’s Connected Home Solution provides real-time data on indoor environmental conditions, monitoring temperature, humidity and carbon dioxide levels to support healthier living environments and reduce risks related to damp, mould and condensation.
Additionally, the system now taps into the Smart DCC network to monitor energy usage with no additional hardware required, offering a seamless and cost-effective approach to improve energy performance monitoring.
With no ongoing cost commitments and direct integration with Trustmark for seamless reporting to the Welsh Government, Aico has seen more and more landlords using the system in 2025.
Partnership renewal
Aico is also pleased to announce the renewal of its partnership with Adra in 2025. As part of this continued collaboration, Aico is re-sponsoring the training pod at Tŷ Gwyrddfai, a state-of-the-art low-carbon hub based in Gwynedd. The centre underscores Adra’s long-term commitment to skills development, education and supporting local initiatives that drive decarbonisation.
As part of the roll-out, Matt Powell (Aico’s relationship manager for North Wales and West England) joined Adra’s electrical team and sub-contractors at Tŷ Gwyrddfai for a full training session, demonstrating the ease of installation and practical application of the Connected Home Solution.
These hands-on sessions and site visits ensure that all contractors and Adra colleagues are well-equipped to deliver the technology effectively and confidently across the retrofit programme.
Through this continued partnership and the deployment of smart and data-driven technology, Adra and Aico are together enhancing housing quality, advancing sustainability and prioritising tenant well-being.
In addition, earlier this year Aico welcomed Adra’s electrical team to their Centre of Excellence in Oswestry for City & Guilds assured training. This full-day training course has been designed to impart a detailed understanding of the design, installation, maintenance, interconnection, siting and electrical connection of domestic alarm systems.
Local community
“Adra has always been on the front foot with its decarbonisation project,” explained Matt Powell. “Tŷ Gwyrddfai is a game-changer in North Wales, upskilling the local community for the road to ‘Net Zero’. It has been great to see a flurry of landlords in Wales using the system for the Optimised Retrofit Programme, with 22 social landlords and local authorities actively using the system in Wales.”
Rhys Roberts, business development manager for Tŷ Gwyrddfai, responded: “We’re proud to continue our partnership with Aico through the renewal of the training pod sponsorship at Tŷ Gwyrddfai. This collaboration supports our mission to upskill the local workforce and drive forward the decarbonisation agenda in North Wales. The Connected Home Solution is a vital tool in our Optimised Retrofit Programme, helping us to deliver healthier and more energy-efficient homes, while empowering our teams with the latest smart technology.”
