ASSA ABLOY streamlines fire door inspections thanks to mobile app
13 January 2024
FIRE DOOR inspection specialist Doorview has selected Openings Studio – ASSA ABLOY’s desktop and new mobile application – as the “optimal solution” for streamlining the company’s fire door inspection procedures and realising the overriding requirement for in-depth reporting.

The creation of clear and transparent inspection protocols boosts the safety of multi-residential properties, in turn offering reassurances for owners and building residents alike.
In order to maximise the effectiveness of the inspection cycle, a reliable and up-to-date source of specification information is critical. As is the case at many other stages of the building lifecycle, digitalisation can be an ideal solution.
In the UK, Doorview offers its customers wide-ranging expertise in the specification and packaging of door solutions, including timber and steel door sets/screens and architectural ironmongery. The business also conducts detailed fire door inspections all over the UK, which is an area of particularly keen focus in the wake of the Grenfell Tower and the subsequent public inquiry.
For this area of its work, Doorview sought a solution which would streamline interactions with customers, thereby making the inspection service even more effective and efficient for clients in the multi-residential sector and beyond.
The company recognised early on that digitalising inspection reports could render workflows more efficient and further improve the service provided, including around recommendations for remediation work.
Maintaining the golden thread
Using the Openings Studio app, Doorview helps to maintain the golden thread (dubbed the ‘single source of truth’). “The app allows us to instantly share fire door inspection reports with our clients,” explained Doorview’s Jody Purcell.
The mobile app enables Doorview’s personnel to instantly share a remedial action list, which reassures the client that their building is compliant and safe for all residents, service providers and other users. Working digitally increases the transparency of the entire inspection and compliance process.
Openings Studio software has become a vital and constantly updated source across the full lifecycle of numerous buildings. Widely used by architects and building specifiers to ensure accuracy and efficiency in design and construction, the Openings Studio mobile app now also equips inspectors with powerful, speedy and transparent reporting tools. It achieves this by leveraging the same information from the beginning of the design phase right through to the maintenance of the completed structure.
Thanks to the training provided by ASSA ABLOY specification experts, Doorview has been able to use the specification information stored in Openings Studio to speed up inspection work. The process of creating and sharing quotes for any corrective work required for compliance has been greatly simplified. Reports can be easily updated with new images once works are complete.
