BAFSA signposts withdrawal of FIRAS certification schemes
17 March 2025
THE BRITISH Automatic Fire Sprinkler Association (BAFSA) has been made aware that third party certification body FIRAS has taken the decision to withdraw specific FIRAS active certification schemes.

Those schemes involved are the Installation of Water Mist Systems, the Installation of Commercial and Industrial Sprinkler Systems and the Installation of Residential and Domestic Sprinkler Systems.
FIRAS advises that these schemes will remain open to existing certified customers until the formal closure date, while their certification will remain live for a period of not less than six months from receiving notification of the scheme closure.
The above schemes will close on 31 August 2025. After that date, FIRAS will no longer operate these schemes and will cease to provide certification. No new applications into the schemes are being accepted and they will close to existing BAFSA members on that same date of 31 August. Any FIRAS certificates still live as at that date will be withdrawn.
*For further information, BAFSA members of these FIRAS schemes have been advised to contact [email protected]
