Promat extends PROMATECT-XS solution to encompass concrete structures
17 October 2026
PASSIVE FIRE protection specialist Promat has extended its PROMATECT-XS system to concrete structures, offering an easy-to-install solution that’s tested and assessed to EN 13381-3:2015 for up to 90 minutes of fire protection.

Developed specifically for retrofit projects that require additional fire protection, the system provides specifiers and contractors alike with an affordable alternative to high-spec concrete upgrade solutions, while at the same time maintaining benefits such as weather resistance.
As the construction industry continues to focus on retrofitting existing buildings, specifiers and installers are navigating how to improve fire performance while working around existing infrastructure and, in some cases, partially or fully occupied buildings. Solutions that can be installed quickly and with minimal disruption offer practical advantages on refurbishment projects.
PROMATECT-XS is designed with a metal frame system to help make installation more straightforward and efficient, supporting installers to quickly fit the necessary protection with full confidence that the product delivers the high levels of performance required.
High-performance concrete upgrade solutions such as Promat’s PROMATECT-H are typically reserved for the most demanding of fire-rating requirements. For those projects that require reliable protection without this level of complexity or investment, PROMATECT-XS offers a practical and cost-effective alternative.
Benefits of metal frame
While direct solutions can be difficult to install on irregular concrete surfaces, a metal frame makes fixing the board back easier as it can be adjusted and levelled independently of the substrate, thereby creating a true and flat plane for the boards regardless of undulations, steps or any minor deterioration to be found in the concrete.
Other solutions (such as cementitious spray) can require extensive surface preparation and additional mesh layers. In addition, they’re often applied when no other trades are on-site. PROMATECT-XS is a dry-fix alternative that helps to minimise disruption and support quicker installation.
“Every retrofit project carries different challenges,” explained Margherita Mullis, product manager at Promat. “Products that facilitate easy installation can reduce the risk of installation errors when working with older, irregular or partially deteriorated structures, as well as helping to reduce labour costs and minimise disruption to any occupants.”
Mullis added: “For those installers tasked with upgrading existing buildings, PROMATECT-XS for concrete is another option that delivers reliable fire protection, while at the same time supporting efficient and easy installation.”
PROMATECT-XS was launched last year to offer an EN-tested fire protection system for structural steel columns and beams. The extension to concrete expands the Promat product portfolio to support installers in selecting the right product for each project.
