Phil Hodge appointed Health and Safety manager at Britannia Fire

23 March 2026

BRITANNIA FIRE is further strengthening its team with the appointment of Phil Hodge who joins in the role of Health and Safety manager as demand for Britannia Fire’s composite fire extinguishers grows exponentially and the company expands its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Norfolk.

Hodge is a qualified Health and Safety professional experienced in delivering Health and Safety regime excellence within manufacturing environments, implementing and managing ISO systems and leading on sustainability initiatives purpose-designed to reduce waste and carbon emissions.

Hodge spent 12 years as an explosives and weapons technician in the RAF, overseeing Health and Safety and ensuring compliance with stringent regulations. He joins Britannia Fire from MSI-Defence Systems Ltd where he played a key role in creating a strong safety culture across two sites playing host to upwards of 200 employees, embedding recognised Best Practice standards and ensuring continuous improvement.

In his new role at Britannia Fire, Hodge will be responsible for Health and Safety as well as compliance, duly supporting the company in meeting its ambitious environmental targets.

Expansion and transformation

Commenting on his new role, Hodge informed Fire Safety Matters: “I’ve worked in some of the most challenging and hazardous environments for over 20 years now. As a result, I bring a huge amount of knowledge and experience to Britannia Fire at a time of rapid business expansion and transformation.”

Hodge continued: “As well as ensuring operational safety and compliance, I’ll be implementing ISO 14001 systems across the business and building on the great work the team has already done to reduce its environmental impact.”

Further, Hodge noted: “With a PFAS ban expected to be announced early next year, I will also ensure that these ‘forever chemicals’ are disposed of correctly and responsibly.”

Expertise and commitment

Andy Spence, joint managing director of Britannia Fire, explained: “We are thrilled to welcome Phil to Britannia Fire at what is an exciting time for the business. We are expanding rapidly as the demand for our products increases. Phil’s expertise and commitment to a safe and healthy workplace will be invaluable as we continue to prioritise sustainability and the well-being of our team and uphold the highest safety standards. He joins our business as we work towards ISO 14001 accreditation and prepare for a potential ban on PFAS.”

Britannia Fire’s P50 composite fire extinguishers are a multi-purpose, corrosion-resistant alternative to traditional metal extinguishers. PFAS=free, fully recyclable and lasting for 20 years, P50 fire extinguishers help customers to meet sustainability targets.

With servicing required every decade rather than every year, customers also benefit from huge time and cost savings.
