Honeywell Gent moves to digitise fire safety systems

20 November 2023

HONEYWELL GENT has launched what is badged as the first fire alarm system with EN-approved self-testing smoke and heat detectors that can be tested automatically, thereby “changing the way in which life safety systems are commissioned, tested and maintained”.

The Gent Vigilon panel complete with Self-Test provides scalable and reliable protection, efficient monitoring and flexible reporting, subsequently enhancing fire systems engineers’ efficiency.

“Honeywell is moving to integrate intelligence across all aspects of life safety systems,” explained Lionel Caillat, vice-president and general manager of the commercial fire division for the EMEA region at Honeywell.

Caillat continued: “By digitising the most essential system in the building, we’re creating more efficient and reliable systems. Through connected services, we’re helping building owners to gain visibility of all of their critical fire and life safety system assets. This will assist in moving the industry towards the creation of safer and more compliant buildings.”

Connected ecosystem

The Gent Vigilon panel with the Self-Test range of detectors is securely enabled through the Honeywell Connected Life Safety Services cloud-based platform. The latter realises real-time visibility of the fire system for competent technicians and facilities managers and, further, allows maintenance engineers to diagnose and trouble-shoot problems ahead of time, thereby improving first-time fix rates and reducing time spent on site.

The Self-Test range of detectors eliminates many of the physical barriers during testing and maintenance, such as locked rooms, voids, high ceilings and other hard-to-access spaces – all of them areas that may go untested, and which can ultimately put buildings at risk.

Sensor testing

With the ability to test both optical and heat sensors and verify that the smoke entry points are free from obstruction, a single maintenance engineer can initiate a building-wide test, improving compliance with an end-to-end electronic audit trail and saving the much-needed time required to carry out the essential visual inspection through the Connected Life Safety Services app.

The Gent Vigilon panel with the Self-Test range of detectors is now available in the UK through Honeywell Gent system integrators.
