Fire safety system upgrade at Eco-Power Stadium underpinned by Hochiki
02 December 2024
HOME TO Doncaster Rovers FC, the Eco-Power Stadium is benefiting from a significant upgrade of its fire safety system courtesy of JLA Fire and Security and Hochiki Europe, with the latter’s open protocol technology ensuring the safety of fans and staff at the 15,231-capacity venue.

The Eco-Power Stadium is a key sporting venue in the region, hosting a variety of football and rugby league fixtures. It also serves as a premier hospitality venue for the city of Doncaster, regularly hosting business meetings, weddings and awards ceremonies.
An upgrade was required for the fire system, but the installation needed to be completed in such a way that nt the stadium could remain operational throughout.
Due to the nature of the site, it’s imperative that the new system and devices are fully functional with ‘in date certification’ so that safety certificates can be issued and events are able to take place.
With the need for an open protocol system and that ‘in date certification’ in mind, JLA Fire and Security – the provider of fire safety solutions – chose to incorporate Hochiki Europe’s ESP devices due to the simplicity of installation and the fact that ESP operates on an open protocol system.
The open protocol compatibility of the Hochiki ESP devices, such as smoke, heat and multi-sensors, ensures seamless integration with other building systems, such as the stadium’s security system, in turn enhancing overall site efficiency. The stadium will now benefit from a significant reduction in false alarms, thereby optimising system performance.
System reliability
Louis Cooper, installation manager for JLA Fire and Security, noted: “Hochiki’s products, and in particular the ESP solution, are our ‘go-to’ for fire safety installations, notably so for projects of this size. Hochiki makes the complex easy. We’re talking about incredible reliability when it comes to false alarms. We were able to complete the project during the close season.”
JLA Fire and Security’s total care contract provides a comprehensive safety solution for the Eco-Power Stadium. The facilities team presided over an expert installation of both fire alarm and intruder alarm systems. There are regular maintenance visits to ensure optimal system performance and swift response should there be any faults.”
By replacing the outdated managed protocol fire alarm system with a modern open protocol solution from Hochiki Europe, JLA Fire and Security has significantly enhanced the stadium’s fire safety capabilities.
