FIA heralds success of inaugural Fire Safety Summit Gibraltar
25 May 2025
FIRE SAFETY professionals gathered at the Sunborn Hotel on 15 May for the inaugural Fire Industry Association (FIA) Fire Safety Summit Gibraltar. From start to finish, the day served as a showcase of collaboration, the delivery of expert knowledge and a tangible shared drive to elevate standards across the fire sector.

Running from 10.00 am to 3.00 pm, the event was designed not only to bring fire sector professionals together, but also to create real opportunities for learning and professional development. In an industry where remaining up-to-date isn’t just important but essential, the Fire Safety Summit Gibraltar struck the right balance between technical depth and accessible insights.
Attendees were privy to various talks, technical discussions and a panel debate. Introducing the event was Ian Moore OBE, CEO at the FIA, whose opening remarks underlined the Trade Association’s commitment to raising competency and uniting fire safety voices across regions.
Moore was joined on stage by a line-up of respected speakers including Colin Ramirez (Chief Fire Officer at the Gibraltar Fire and Rescue Service), Sir Ken Knight (former Chief Fire Advisor to the Government on fire safety issues in England) and several other senior figures from across the industry.
For their part, the presentations spanned topics ranging from local operational challenges through to international lessons from major incidents including Grenfell, as well as technological innovation and changes to European fire standards.
Throughout the day, delegates engaged in meaningful conversations about Best Practice, regulatory development and the daily realities of managing fire risk. The panel discussion tackled the unique pressures facing Gibraltar’s fire industry, duly bringing together insights from Government, the private sector and technical specialists.
Accompanying exhibition
The Fire Safety Summit Gibraltar also featured an accompanying exhibition where companies including Aico, AJ Sheriff Electrical, Britannia Fire, C-TEC, The Fire Door Inspectors and Hyfire demonstrated their latest products and services for attendees. There was a chance to explore new technologies and ask questions directly of the innovators behind them.
Beyond the sessions and displays, there was a real sense of shared purpose in the room. Delegates, speakers and exhibitors alike came away with a deeper understanding of the challenges ahead, but also a renewed sense of commitment towards driving progress. Whether it was through practical knowledge, policy updates or new partnerships formed on the day, the Fire Safety Summit Gibraltar 2025 succeeded in its mission to support professional growth and build a stronger and more competent fire safety community.
The FIA extends its thanks to everyone who made the event possible, including speakers Sir Ken Knight, Colin Ramirez, Andy Spence, Alan Elder, Alan Wheal and Simon Sheldon. Thanks are also due to the many passionate attendees who brought their experience and ideas.
