Update on changes to BS 5839 Part 8 takes centre stage at ‘Get Ahead 2024’
28 October 2024
ANTHONY SMITH, managing director of emergency and safety audio systems manufacturer Vox Ignis, is going to be speaking at the Institute of Sound, Communications and Visual Engineers’ (ISCVE) event entitled ‘Get Ahead 2024’, which runs at The Rose Shure Experience Centre, 24 King William Street, London EC4R 9AT on 7 November.
The gathering will offer delegates exclusive insights from industry experts on the latest trends in sound, communications and visual sectors. Smith’s briefing begins at 11.15 am and focuses on ‘Understanding the Implications and Changes in BS 5839 Part 8’, the British Standard dedicated to Fire Detection and Fire Alarm Systems for Buildings – Design, Installation, Commissioning and Maintenance of Voice Alarm Systems – Code of Practice.
Recently appointed as chair of the British Standards Institution’s Committee FSH/12/5, which is responsible for the development and maintenance of British Standards-centred Codes of Practice for the design, installation, servicing and maintenance of voice alarm evacuation systems and emergency communication systems in buildings, Smith intends to deliver “a clear understanding” for delegates of the recent changes to BS 5839-8 and their impact on design, installation and maintenance practices, including new requirements for system design, performance and integration with other safety systems.
Importantly, the hour-long session will cover the impact of these updates on current and future projects, offering practical guidance for ensuring compliance.
