Apollo Fire Detectors maps out commitment to sustainability agenda
28 November 2023
FIRE DETECTION and fire safety solutions developer Apollo Fire Detectors has unveiled its long-term commitment to a sustainable future through the formation of a comprehensive sustainability strategy aimed at fostering environmental responsibility and championing industry-wide change.

Over the past few years, the company has dedicated extensive efforts to research, dialogue and collaboration within the sustainability landscape of the fire detection and alarm systems industry. Through these endeavours, Apollo has identified key focus areas for both its manufacturing processes and products, including responsible sourcing, carbon reduction, circular economy adoption and material considerations.
Vicki Wells, sustainability manager at Apollo, informed Fire Safety Matters: “As we move forward into this sustainable future, we are committed to providing insights and solutions that contribute towards the broader mission of building a sustainable world, while in parallel always maintaining the highest standards of fire safety.”
Integral element
As a company, Apollo firmly believes that being a responsible and sustainable business is not just a chosen path, but rather an integral element of the industry’s future. The business aspires to set a standard for responsible practices, all the while going beyond mere compliance.
Several key sustainability objectives have been outlined. In terms of addressing the climate change issue, for example, Apollo is committed to achieving ‘Net Zero’ emissions across all three scopes, reducing its carbon footprint and offering a greener product portfolio.
When it comes to embracing the circular economy, the company is transitioning towards this by designing out waste in products and operations, using recycled materials and prioritising responsible end-of-life practices.
Further, Apollo is wholly dedicated to fostering diversity and embedding equity and inclusion into its workforce.
Significant milestones
Apollo has already been privy to several significant milestones. For instance, the company has received the Silver EcoVadis certification in recognition of its commitment to sustainable practices.
Also, the company has adopted a zero waste-to-landfill approach, in turn emphasising responsible waste management practices and makes effective and efficient use of 100% renewable energy in its operations.
On top of all that, the recent launch of a Supplier Sustainability Programme aims to decarbonise the upstream value chain. Indeed, Apollo’s sustainability journey comprehensively addresses the entire carbon footprint, encompassing operational efficiency, embodied carbon from materials and production processes and indirect carbon caused by fire systems (such as false alarms).
Leading the conversation
In conclusion, Vicki Wells added: “We are evaluating every aspect of our products’ lifecycle and supply chain in order to lead the conversation about sustainability within the fire detection and alarm systems industry.”
