Alnmouth Friary protected by intelligent fire panel from Advanced

27 February 2023

FIRE PROTECTION solutions manufacturer Advanced has provided an intelligent fire panel to safeguard Alnmouth Friary, a Franciscan monastery overlooking the Alnmouth coastline in Northumberland. An Advanced MxPro 5 analogue addressable fire panel has been installed to realise a protection regime that’s high-performance and fault-tolerant.

Alnmouth Friary was originally built in the early 20th Century as a private dwelling. Today, the main ministry offers hospitality to visitors and is also the house where new men are welcomed to try their vocation with the Society of Saint Francis.

Fire and security service provider Safe Services installed the Advanced MxPro 5 four-loop analogue addressable fire panel at Alnmouth Friary. The company was involved in the project from the design stage right though to installation and commissioning. The fire panel is integrated with Apollo’s Discovery fire detectors for a complete fire system.

Panel of choice

Graeme Millar, technical and sales engineer for fire systems at Safe Systems said: “We were delighted to be asked to install the fire protection system at the Alnmouth Friary. The Advanced MxPro 5 is providing fire protection for both the Brothers who live in the Friary and all of their guests who visit them. The Advanced MxPro 5 is our panel of choice. It’s reliable, fault-tolerant, high-performance and great to install.”

Neil Parkin, sales manager at Advanced, added: “Our MxPro 5 panels are designed to make life as easy as possible, delivering robust protection that offers real peace of mind, all backed up by comprehensive technical support. Time and cost benefits are provided by MxPro 5 for installers. The system is a great choice for multiple project scenarios.”

Certified panel

The multi-protocol MxPro 5 panel is certified by FM Approvals to the EN54 standard. It offers customers a choice of four detector protocols and a completely open installer network.

MxPro 5 can be used in single-loop, single-panel format or easily configured into high-speed networks of up to 200 panels covering huge areas. Ease of installation and configuration, as well as its wide range of peripheral options, render the MxPro 5 solution customisable for almost any application.

To combat false and unwanted alarms, AlarmCalm is available as standard on MxPro 5 panels, duly delivering control of verification and investigation delays. By dividing sites up into virtual false alarm ‘building areas’ independent of fire zones, much more precise control of false alarm management and reduction strategies can be achieved.

An optional AlarmCalm button allows trained building occupants to verify if they believe a local fire signal is a false alarm as well. This is a highly effective way in which to eliminate unwanted alarms.
