Aico alarm series selected for resident protection at new Cornbrook development

04 March 2021

FIRE DETECTION solutions provider Aico’s 3000 Series alarm products have been specified to protect the Cornbrook development in Manchester which comprises one-bedroom and two-bedroom units, as well as duplex and townhouse apartments.

Stothers M&E Ltd provides building engineering services across the UK and Ireland. With regional offices in Glasgow and Warrington, the Belfast-based national contractor was recently awarded a £75 million contract for the development of two tower blocks in Manchester.

In order to ensure the residents within are safe and protected from fire, Stothers M&E Ltd decided to work with Aico and employ the latter’s flagship 3000 Series throughout the development.

The new homes for private rent will transform the area of Cornbrook in Manchester’s Trafford district, bringing a new lease of life to an underused site near the tram station. In addition to individual dwellings, the development will also incorporate a library, a gym, private gardens and resident lounge areas with a view towards creating strong community bonds.

The project will see over 1,800 Aico fire and CO alarms installed in the 363 apartments. As stated, the Cornbrook development if going to make use of Aico’s 3000 Series units, including multi-sensor fire alarms, for complete coverage at the location.

Technical support

Aico’s regional specification manager Duncan Orr has been working closely with the team at Stothers M&E Ltd to ensure the correct fire alarm solution for each property and has been on hand to provide technical support for those dwellings with unusual layouts.

Orr told Fire Safety Matters: “Thanks to our multi-sensor technology, we’ve been able to overcome the challenges presented by the open plan design of the apartments, thus ensuring a reliable and nuisance-free system for future occupants.”

Neil Alexander, electrical contracts manager for the project, added: “With an LD1 category install required for the dwellings, Stothers M&E Ltd selected Aico due to the high level of customer support, technical advice and extensive product range offered by the company. We pride ourselves on installing high quality equipment which is evidenced by an extremely low number of defects during the post-handover stage. With over 1,800 Aico devices being used on this project, reliability across the board is obviously of critical importance.”

The development of luxury dwellings is due to be completed in August.
