Zzeus Training launches Level 3 qualification in emergency lighting
06 September 2025
ZZEUS TRAINING has announced the launch of a new one-day Level 3 qualification that’s concentrated on the Design, Installation and Maintenance of Emergency Lighting Systems. The qualification has been developed in close collaboration with recognised awarding organisation EAL.

Created in response to strong demand for advanced emergency lighting-focused training, the qualification builds on Zzeus Training’s proven track record of innovation. The company has previously partnered with EAL to develop the widely acclaimed Level 3 course in fire alarm systems, which remains a benchmark for the industry.
This new one-day intensive course equips attendees with the core skills they require to design, install, test and maintain emergency lighting systems in line with BS 5266 Part 1 and BS 5266 Part 8, while also ensuring that they remain updated when it comes to the latest legislation.
Course days run from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm at Zzeus Training’s Lincoln headquarters on Crofton Drive, as well as at British Fire Consortium Training Centres in London and Telford. There has been a conscious effort to make the instruction accessible to learners across multiple regions.
The cost per attendee is £295 + VAT. The course concludes with a formal Ofqual-approved examination, thereby affording learners the opportunity to achieve a nationally recognised Level 3 qualification in just one day.
For reference, the first course is running on Friday 17 October.
Engaging experience
Zzeus Training is renowned for its continual commitment to high-quality learning. As such, class sizes are strictly limited to ten or eleven participants, in turn ensuring that every learner benefits from a more personal and engaged training experience.
The new qualification has been shaped with strong input from Buddy Squires, Zzeus Training’s lead tutor (and now a company director), who has worked closely and voluntarily with EAL to help bring the qualification to life.
Squires brings a unique skill set to the fore as both a qualified teacher with a university degree and also a highly experienced fire alarm engineer. Indeed, this rare combination of academic and hands-on expertise has been central to Zzeus Training’s ongoing success and is duly reflected in the company’s consistently high learner pass rates.
Relevant, practical, effective
“Our passion has always been to evolve training materials such that they’re more relevant, practical and effective for engineers,” explained Squires in conversation with Fire Safety Matters. “With the industry now calling for recognised qualifications following the ‘Raising the Bar’ report, it’s vital that training genuinely proves competence.”
Squires continued: “At Zzeus Training, we’re committed to ensuring that engineers have access to high-quality and meaningful qualifications that not only meet the new standards required, but also build confidence and develop the practical skills needed to deliver safer and better work.”
In conclusion, Squires noted: “The new Level 3 qualification in emergency lighting is a significant step towards that goal and is being delivered with the same hands-on approach that underpins all of our training.”
