The Health and Safety Event announces content agenda for 2020

Backed by industry; British Safety Council, Health and Safety Executive (HSE), IOSH, NEBOSH, Access Industry Forum, British Safety Industry Federation, UK Asbestos Training Association to name a few, will be contributing to the content programme to inform and educate practitioners in delivering the highest standards of health and safety in the workplace.

With more working days in the UK lost to ill-health than injury, health and wellbeing will be one of the key themes that will be discussed in the programme. Now that the UK has left the European Union, questions remain on how this will impact health and safety standards. A number of sessions will address changes to regulations and standards in the wake of brexit.

The Knowledge Exchange (sponsored by Southalls) curated by Health and Safety Matters Magazine will play host to interactive panel debates. The sessions will be steered by the audience who will be able to pose questions to a panel of industry experts on topics such as the importance of respiratory protection, mitigating the risk of mental ill-health, the future of health and safety legislation, RIDDOR and the role of the responsible person. 

The British Safety Council will once again host a theatre with sessions including the revised sentencing guidelines, the impacts of brexit on health and safety regulations, ISO 45001, managing health and wellbeing, fire safety regulation changes post Grenfell. The theatre will be opened by the new Chief Executive of HSE, Sarah Albon where she will outline the regulator’s role in ensuring senior management leadership on health and safety within an organisation.

The Lone Worker Theatre (in partnership with Lone Worker Safety Live) will address the three key issues faced by lone workers; health and safety, personal safety and security, and wellbeing and mental health. Expert speakers will share their knowledge and experience to provide visitors with actionable insights and practical strategies on how to assess and manage the risks.

Making its debut at this year’s event will be The Safer Logistics and Machinery Safety Theatre, which will offer expert advice and guidance on safer logistics and machinery safety. It will tackle the key safety hot spots in the world of warehousing and logistics as well as safety while using machinery in the workplace. Sessions include how to boost your safety culture, are your machine sensors complaint with the law, asking awkward questions about driver health, maintaining a smart culture in a smart factory, how to adequately guard machines and much more.

Also new for 2020, the HSE Recruitment Network’s Professional Development Zone will feature live onstage interviews and a series of training, workshops and presentations focused on career, culture and community. Their consultants will be on hand to equip delegates with the tools and techniques to accelerate their professional career.
