Fire door system from Hurst Doors certified for external use
04 April 2023
HURST DOORS has become one of just a handful of UK suppliers certified to produce a quality composite FD30s fire doorset with sidelights and fanlights. The company is now certified under the BM Trada UKCA marking scheme focused on external pedestrian fire-rated doorsets.

Consequently, the business can now supply five of its most popular door styles for settings that are open to the elements, such as external flat entrances, and also incorporate fanlights and/or sidelights.
Subjected to rigorous third party testing, the flagship Neuma fds fire door system developed by Hurst Doors has undergone more than 30 bi-directional tests at three independent and accredited European test laboratories. Under test conditions, the fire doors achieved an average integrity of 45 minutes (ie a 50% longer duration than the FD30s standard requires).
Particularly suitable for reactive maintenance, refurbishment projects and new-build developments, Hurst Doors’ fire doors are currently being made available for several large-scale social housing projects.
Consistent performance
Mart Atkinson (pictured, right), sales director at Hurst Doors, told Fire Safety Matters: “The Neuma fds fire door system was realised out of a desire to create a fire door product that was proven to consistently perform and can be relied upon. That meant we needed the end product to offer outstanding fire performance, but at the same time to be versatile enough to excel in a wide variety of residential and commercial applications.”
Atkinson continued: “With the ability to now offer FD30s fire doors for both internal and external use, as well as products with sidelights and fanlights, we’ve increased that versatility and ensured that the Neuma fds system is a highly practical and consistent fire door solution.”
Further, Atkinson observed: “Whether the fire door requirement is for a single client site or larger volumes across multiple sites, the dedicated team members at Hurst Doors are on hand to help at every step, from the initial specification right through to contract completion.”
EN 1634-1:2014
The product has also been tested to the tougher EN 1634-1:2014 standard. Testing has been completed on both solid and glazed door options.
In addition, all stages of the Neuma fds supply chain are third party certified to the BM Trada Q-Mark certification scheme.
