Cygnus issues bespoke installation and maintenance tools for SmartNet

The new Site Survey Kit has been designed to help with the planning and deployment of the SmartNet system, while the Portal Programming Unit (PPU) allows system installers to deliver firmware and configuration updates to devices on a wireless basis.

The Site Survey Kit allows installers to deploy three bespoke detectors that replicate the mesh network to ensure the suitability of the system for the environment. By ensuring that the wireless sensor network is set up for maximum reliability and efficiency, this saves time during installation and on future call-outs.

During the site survey process, the Cygnus team will demonstrate the signal strengths between the control panel and devices, while a visual indicator will confirm the connection via multiple paths, thereby providing guidance for the correct number of devices and their location throughout the site.

The Site Survey Kit adds to the Cygnus Mesh Analyser and Cygnus ALERT monitoring and notification platform as tools to aid the commissioning and ongoing maintenance of fire detection and alarm system.

The Cygnus Mesh Analyser software provides an overview of a SmartNet fire detection and alarm system network, delivering a graphical display of mesh signal strengths and connection paths for each device in the system. It also suggests actions to enhance the performance of the system.

The Cygnus ALERT notification and monitoring platform is a cloud-based solution designed to strengthen site safety. Using Cygnus ALERT, integrators and site administrators can receive event, fault or mesh information in real-time. This enables swift responses to on-site situations.

Portal Programming Unit (PPU)

The PPU allows installers to run firmware updates and update device configurations wirelessly while they’re on site, making the whole process faster and more efficient for areas that are hard to access. The installer simply selects the devices that need to be updated. They are then dropped into a programming mode and updated before re-joining the main mesh network seamlessly.

The EN 54 certified 100% wireless fire detection and alarm system that is SmartNet offers a “reliable, robust and adaptable” solution that’s up to 20 times faster to install than wired systems.

Due to it being 100% wireless, there’s no need for gateways, expanders or loop-powered translating devices. The solution features Cygnus’ patented self-forming and self-healing wireless mesh technology.
