Cygnus Academy opened for installer training on SmartNet
14 May 2023
CYGNUS, THE developer and manufacturer of wireless fire detection and alarm systems, has opened the new Cygnus Academy – an in-person, high-specification training hub for installers who are seeking to learn more about the company’s new SmartNet wireless fire detection and alarm system.

Located at the company’s headquarters in Hereford, the Cygnus Academy provides a modern, fully equipped and comfortable environment where installers can complete the SmartNet one-day training course in order to become a Cygnus Certified Partner.
The SmartNet course, which combines both theoretical and practical training, provides detailed insights into the SmartNet technology and the skills required to carry out a successful installation.
Areas covered in the first part of the course include an overview of SmartNet wireless technology, site and system configuration and SmartNet installation. The second part focuses on setting up the mobile app as well as diagnostics and fault-finding, duly affording system installers an in-depth overview of Cygnus and SmartNet and allowing them to design and fit a system correctly while in parallel offering the best services for their clients.
System in detail
The Cygnus SmartNet system comprises a comprehensive range of EN 54-compliant and Construction Products Regulation (CPR 305/2011)-certified fire detection and alarm devices suitable for permanent installation across all types of buildings.
Those devices include a choice of radio bases, with and without sounders and visual indicators, plus optical smoke, Type B heat detectors, PIR detectors and a combi detector, which has a smoke and A1R sensor, together with ceiling- and wall-mounted visual alarm devices, Call Points and interfaces.
“Reliable, robust and easy-to-install wireless fire detection and alarm systems are a huge growth opportunity for installers,” commented Austen Wells, sales manager at Cygnus. “The Cygnus SmartNet system transforms this opportunity into a business reality. It’s a system that’s quick and simple to install and can be scaled effectively to serve small and large installations. SmartNet is also supported by expert in-depth training through the Cygnus Academy and ongoing technical support from the business.”
Strong heritage
Cygnus boasts a strong heritage having amassed over a decade of experience in developing wireless technology, beginning with the launch of the original Cygnus radio evacuation systems for construction sites.
Upcoming dates for installer training at the Cygnus Academy include 16, 23 and 30 May. Training can be booked via e-mail at: [email protected]
