Jactone Products managing director Craig Halford elected chair of FIA’s Extinguishing Council
14 December 2020
JACTONE PRODUCTS has announced the recent pro bono appointment of its managing director Craig Halford as chair of the Fire Industry Association’s (FIA) dedicated Extinguishing Council. As a result of this appointment, Halford also assumes his position on the FIA’s Board of Directors.
Halford graduated from the University of Liverpool in 1983 with a First Class Honours BEng degree in Mechanical Engineering. During his studies, he worked as an undergraduate apprentice at Rolls-Royce, duly receiving in-depth instruction on all of the recognised mechanical engineering disciplines.
In 1985, Halford took on the role of project engineer at Offshore Marine Engineering, a business involved in the manufacture and installation of saturation diving systems and associated ancillary equipment for various marine vessels.
Halford’s move to Jactone Products was realised in 1988. Jactone Products is a Wolverhampton-based, family-owned company specialising in the design and manufacture of a diverse range of fire, safety and signage products including fire extinguishers, fire blankets, fire safety accessories and pneumatically-actuated fire suppression systems.
As a business, Jactone Practice is wholly committed to the work of the FIA and particularly interested in contributing to the development of industry standards and the promotion of safe and legal products.
The FIA’s Extinguishing Council represents the product manufacturers and suppliers of fire extinguishing and firefighting equipment. This includes gaseous, foam, watermist systems, portable extinguishers and similar hardware.
The Council’s key role is to present the collective views of this sector of the industry and includes negotiation and discussion with Government and other external bodies. The Council is made up of 15 elected members representing small, medium and larger FIA member companies.
As well as representing members’ interests, the Council monitors and influences the development of equipment-related standards, legislation and regulations and, in addition, commissions research. It also provides guidance for product-related marketing, communications and training issues.
