Comelit-PAC makes the grade for fire safety at Claremont Primary School

28 November 2022

COMELIT-PAC has been working with partner GB Integrated Systems to fit the very latest fire safety solutions at Claremont Primary School, in turn ensuring the safety of pupils, staff and visitors alike.

The school, which is part of the Heart of Manchester Partnership, is a thriving educational establishment with a child-centred ethos. It prides itself on being an outward-looking school, actively engaging – and encouraging interaction – with the local community.

In a bid to ensure ongoing fire safety, GB Integrated Systems worked with the school to carry out a full risk assessment of the fire safety measures in place.  Following the recommendation to upgrade the addressable panels, Comelit-PAC was specified along with its latest LogiFire solution.

Safe environment

Mrs Charlton, business manager at the Claremont Primary School, said: “It’s crucial that all of our pupils and staff, together with members of the local community, are safe when on school premises. This is particularly important in relation to fire safety, where we work with the local authority under the guidance of the Department for Education towards the same goals of ensuring a safe environment.”

Charlton continued: “This means regularly assessing our systems to ensure they are fit for purpose and compliant. We’ve worked with GB Integrated Systems to evaluate our fire safety plan on the back of a full fire safety risk assessment.  They recommended a new fire system that could be installed to seamlessly operate with our fire doors, access control and building management system, thereby helping us to monitor activity on a remote basis.”

Early detection

GB Integrated Systems specified Comelit-PAC’s LogiFire Easy system. The school required a two-loop system together with detection and AV devices.

Mike Gray, technical director at GB Integrated Systems, noted: “Fire safety in schools is incredibly important. There’s a need for early detection that allows those on site the optimal time to evaluate the risk, respond to it, remediate any issues and then potentially avoid the evacuation of pupils and staff while also safeguarding against damage or loss. The key to minimising the risk is ensuring maintenance checks on a routine basis.”

Gray also observed: “Claremont Primary School is a perfect example of where we could identify when the upgrade was required. We chose Comelit-PAC’s LogiFire solution because we knew the system could be delivered quickly and installed using the existing fire cabling infrastructure. This not only saved time, but also minimised the disruption to daily learning timetables. It also ensures a compliant solution that’s designed to seamlessly blend in with its surroundings.”

EN standards

The Logifire addressable system has been designed to offer a simple-to-install fire safety solution that’s compliant with EN standards. It’s complemented by a new range of detectors and offered with award-winning designs to ensure systems blend in with their surroundings.

Mandy Bowden, fire manager at Comelit-PAC, stated: “When it comes to schools, we have a Duty of Care to every staff member, pupil and visitor in terms of making sure that buildings remain safe and secure. This means observing the latest fire safety legislation and assessing each school on a bespoke basis to really understand the fire safety requirements.”

Further, Bowden commented: “At Claremont Primary School, the features of LogiFire rendered a simple and intelligent installation for GB Integrated Systems. We worked through the technical elements of the design process together and made certain the system could interface with existing systems on site. We reduced the installation time without compromising on high-quality standards and protection for all those who attend or work at the school.”
