Luminite introduces Nexus wireless heat and smoke detectors to enhance fire safety
20 October 2020
LUMINITE ELECTRONICS, the manufacturer of wireless and hard-wired PIR detectors, has launched its Nexus Fire Alert wireless critical alert system which is specifically for installation on construction sites where, by law, there must be a visual and audible alert system for fire outbreaks.

How do system installers and builders protect part-built houses or offices on a site, though? Nexus Fire Alert heat and smoke detectors have been specially designed to work with the Nexus Fire Alert system on evolving construction sites. When heat or smoke triggers a detector within a part-built construction, the whole site will be alerted via Nexus units, both audibly and visually by way of a proven wireless mesh protocol.
The detectors have a transmission range of 100 metres, while the Nexus Call Points and sounders have a one-kilometre range. Heat and smoke detectors would be placed in the part-built element with a Nexus unit close by. Once triggered, all other Nexus units on the site would be activated.
All Nexus units are battery-powered. Heat and smoke detectors boast a ten-year battery life, with Nexus Call Points designed to have a three-year lifespan. The systems are portable and quick and easy to install with no civil works or cabling required.
Both detectors comply with the necessary European regulations. The smoke detectors are approved to EN 15604:2005, while the heat detectors conform to BS 5446-2:2003.
Each Nexus alert unit has an input and output and can be connected to a variety of access control points including turnstiles, areas with restricted access, as well as fire doors which, in the event of fire, can be opened to allow rapid evacuation.
Graham Creek, managing director of Luminite Electronics, told Fire Safety Matters: “The protection of part-builds and timber-framed buildings in general was high on our list of priorities when we designed the Nexus Fire Alert system. These specially adapted heat and smoke detectors afford all those practitioners working in the construction sector peace of mind.’
