Landmark day for facilities sector as Mitie and Interserve Facilities Management officially join forces

09 December 2020

MITIE AND Interserve Facilities Management have now combined forces. Together, the enhanced Mitie Group combines public and private sector expertise with industry-leading technology and sustainability credentials.

Phil Bentley, CEO at Mitie, said: “I want to extend a very warm welcome to all of the new colleagues and clients who are joining Mitie. I recognise that there’s much to do as we bring our two companies together, but I believe that we have an opportunity to shape the future of facilities management. By being the voice of the front line and a standard bearer for the industry, together we will create a company of which we can all be proud.”

Supporting clients in both the private and public sectors with essential services remains a core part of Mitie’s offer. The Mitie Group is now formed of five divisions: Business Services (which includes security, cleaning and office services), Central Government and Defence, Communities (which will serve hospitals, PFI schools and local authorities), Technical Services (including engineering, energy, water and real estate services) and Specialist Services (comprising Mite’s existing care and custody, landscapes and waste businesses).

Mitie has invested heavily in its IT infrastructure over the past three years. Its technology will underpin the delivery of services. A range of connected technology will be employed including remote monitoring, real-time analytics, chatbots and energy monitoring. Technology is changing the facilities management industry and Mitie is positioning itself at the forefront of this revolution, supporting clients to make workplaces safer, more agile and more efficient in the post-COVID-19 world.

On the front line

Mitie now has 77,500 employees, the majority of whom continue to work as front line heroes, helping to keep the UK running throughout the pandemic and beyond. Recognising the vital services these colleagues provide, Mitie has developed a range of initiatives which offer support, development and opportunity, in turn creating a great place to work for all colleagues.

A range of new benefits will be available to all colleagues including life assurance, a 24/7 virtual GP service and an Employee Assistance Programme, as well as a range of other lifestyle benefits.

Colleagues will also have access to Mitie’s Learning Hub, development programmes and apprenticeship courses. This investment in learning and development, combined with the Mitie Group’s broad range of services and clients across every sector, means that there will be even more opportunities for career progression across the employee cohort.

In November last year, Mitie became a Living Wage Foundation Recognised Service Provider. The company offers a Real Living Wage-based solution for each request for tender, highlighting it as the recommended option, and pays all staff at head office and those employed in core functions at least the Real Living Wage. The Group has also recently made the decision not to bid any new contracts at the National Minimum Wage and, what’s more, will continue this approach moving forwards.

With 250 nationalities represented and a great strength of diversity across the business, Mitie is uniquely placed to represent the voice of the UK’s front line heroes and the exceptional services they provide.

Standard bearer

Mitie’s commitment to doing the right thing spreads wider than being a responsible employer. Social value and sustainability remain high on its agenda. Mitie’s Plan Zero commitment to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2025 still stands.

While delivering on its own goals, Mitie will continue to support customers in developing their own net zero carbon strategies and achieving their sustainability ambitions in order to tackle the climate crisis.

By continuing to invest in innovation and technology, Mitie will keep finding new ways in which to have a positive impact on the planet, for its colleagues and customers, and indeed in the communities in which it serves.
