FireProtect 2 from Ajax Systems receives BSI Kitemark certification
16 September 2024
THE BRITISH Standards Institution (BSI) has certified Ajax Systems’ FireProtect 2 detectors, which were initially released back in 2022, with the BSI Kitemark. Further, the detector series is UK Conformity Assessed and compliant with the European Union’s (EU) Construction Products Regulation.

This development represents a significant endorsement for Ajax Systems as it opens up access to retail channels in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Paul Pope, global head of the fire and life safety business division resident within Ajax Systems and also a Board member of the Fire Industry Association, commented: “Obtaining the BSI Kitemark and UKCA as well as EU Construction Products Regulation approval provides us with further access to the international residential fire and life safety markets. Working with the BSI has delivered the UKCA product certification to the UK Government requirements for England, Wales and Scotland. The new construction products legislation is planned to take effect from 30 June 2025.”
Robert Hearty (global commercial and technical manager at the BSI) responded: “Obtaining BSI certification is a rigorous process that demands product quality and adherence to stringent industry standards. Ajax Systems demonstrated a strong commitment to safety and innovation throughout the entire certification process. The company’s team members actively engaged with our experts, addressing any feedback promptly and effectively.”
Additional requirements
The BSI Kitemark certification imposes additional requirements such as bi-annual factory production control inspections and adherence to quality control standards. It’s recognised as the major industry product standard for the UK’s fire safety market, at least in part due to the fact that products must undergo regular revalidation to ensure ongoing compliance. In terms of FireProtect 2, Ajax Systems will need to send product samples to the BSI’s laboratory twice every year for audit tests.
Sergii Shcherbakov, fire team manager at Ajax Systems, explained: “The BSI Kitemark is crucial for demonstrating how serious Ajax Systems is about the quality and reliability of its fire and carbon monoxide alarms. The Kitemark is a prestigious quality mark that shows our products meet the highest safety and performance standards. This certification helps our customers to understand that Ajax Systems alarms follow the strictest regulations and are backed by the most reputable certification bodies in the world, affording them peace of mind and confidence in their safety systems.”
